Romantic Sri Lanka & Maldives Honeymoon

BEHIND THE INSPIRATION

A couple approached us with a clear vision for their honeymoon: they wanted a beach destination, but not one where they’d spend the entire time lounging with nothing to do. We presented them with options that included island hopping and two-destination combinations, and they chose Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Sri Lanka, though a small island, offers an extraordinary range of experiences, from ancient temples and colonial cities to stunning national parks. For honeymooners, it’s the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, with plenty to see and do. Just a short flight from Sri Lanka, the Maldives is easily accessible, with a speedboat or seaplane ride completing the journey to this idyllic paradise.

 JOURNEY BLUEPRINT

Upon arrival at the airport, a private car and guide transferred our clients to Kandy, where they passed through expansive plantations and lush tropical landscapes on their way to this vibrant city nestled in the hills at the center of the island. They visited the Temple of the Tooth to witness the evening puja ceremony, an unforgettable cultural experience. While in Kandy, they also stopped by the Bahirawakanda Monastery, home to a giant white Buddha statue visible from all over the city.

Next, they took a scenic train ride from Kandy to the heart of Bogawantalawa Valley, known as the “Golden Valley of Tea,” one of the most breathtaking train journeys in the world. The seven-hour ride took them through lush tea plantations, quaint villages, ancient bridges, waterfalls, and stunning mountain views. They stayed in one of the four charming colonial bungalows, originally built for British tea estate managers during the Raj. This offered them an immersive experience of life on a working tea estate, set at an elevation of over 4,000 feet in the highlands.

A thrilling game drive through Yala National Park followed, where they spotted wild elephants, crocodiles, colorful birds, and even glimpsed the elusive leopard.

Finally, they were captivated by the Maldives, with its pristine white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters—truly the ultimate destination for honeymooners. They snorkeled in remote reefs, explored secluded beaches, tried stand-up paddleboarding, and enjoyed a big-game fishing adventure, complete with a delicious BBQ lunch on a private, deserted island.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Considering the combination of these two destinations, the best time to visit is from February to April. This period is ideal for Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, offering favorable weather and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. It is also a great time to visit Bogawantalawa Valley and Kandy, as this falls within the dry season. Additionally, this is the high season in the Maldives (lasting from December to May).
