Magical Lapland: A Family Adventure

BEHIND THE INSPIRATION

Our client wanted to take their children, ages 6, 8, and 11, to Santa Claus Village, seeking an authentic Christmas experience and the chance to enjoy iconic Lapland activities such as husky safaris and the opportunity to witness the Northern Lights. We recommended early December for their trip, as this time typically offers ample snow for activities like snowmobiling and husky safaris, while also providing clear, bright nights perfect for Northern Lights viewing—an experience the adults were particularly excited about.

JOURNEY BLUEPRINT

The family adventure began upon their arrival in Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, located within the Arctic Circle and the home of Santa Claus. Upon reaching Santa Claus Village, they had free time to explore and immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere, stepping across the Arctic Circle, visiting the Post Office, and meeting Santa Claus himself. The Christmas spirit was alive throughout the village, with carols playing and elves bustling about. The children enjoyed a thrilling mini snowmobile ride on a designated track within the village.

The Family Snowmobile Safari was an exciting adventure for the entire family. The clients were impressed by the local cuisine, which featured fresh, pure ingredients sourced from the surrounding forests—mushrooms, berries, and lichen—as well as fish from nearby rivers and lakes.

The following day, they visited a local husky farm, where they hopped into a musher-driven sleigh. The fast-paced ride was a hit with the children, and the well-behaved huskies added to the excitement. In the evening, they embarked on a thrilling Northern Lights hunt by minivan, ensuring comfort for the children in the chilly temperatures. Surrounded by the peaceful silence of snow-covered forests, they were treated to a warm fire prepared by the guide, along with refreshments, as they awaited the dazzling display of the Northern Lights. Despite the weather’s unpredictable nature, they were fortunate enough to witness this breathtaking natural phenomenon under a clear sky filled with stars.

To further immerse themselves in the local culture, the family spent a winter day like the Finns. Guided through the Arctic Forest’s stunning landscapes, they reached a frozen lake where they learned how to drill through thick ice and tried their hand at fishing. The experience was complemented by a cozy campfire, grilled snacks, and warm drinks, while they enjoyed the clean, crisp air and listened to tales of the region’s biggest fish catches.

BEST TIME TO GO

The best time to visit Lapland is during the winter months, from December to March, when the region is transformed into a winter wonderland. This period offers ideal conditions for experiencing activities like husky safaris, snowmobiling, and Northern Lights hunting, with snow-covered landscapes and long nights. For those seeking a festive atmosphere, December is especially magical, with Christmas celebrations at their peak.
