Botswana & Mozambique: A Safari and Beach Escape

BEHIND THE INSPIRATION

A well-traveled couple, experienced in exploring diverse corners of the world, approached us for destination ideas focused on unspoiled natural beauty. They sought an experience immersed in nature—perhaps something reminiscent of a Robinson Crusoe-style beach escape, but without a treehouse. Their preference was for destinations that are serene yet not too remote, offering a small number of visitors while still providing opportunities for adventure and impressive experiences. They were clear in their desire to avoid places with golf courses or shopping malls.

After considering eight carefully selected destinations, they chose a Botswana safari with a beach extension in Mozambique.

JOURNEY BLUEPRINT

Botswana offers one of the most exclusive and exceptional safari experiences, thanks to its high-income, low-footprint tourism model (high prices, small number of visitors). The safari camps and lodges are spread out across the country, each offering unparalleled quality, character, and privacy, ensuring a truly spectacular wildlife experience.

We crafted an itinerary that included two of Botswana’s finest parks: Chobe and the Okavango Delta. Chobe, home to the largest elephant population in the world, thrilled them with its abundance of wildlife—including lions, leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, civets, and caracals. The Okavango Delta, with its tranquil mokoro canoe rides, allowed them to glide silently along the water, capturing the subtle beauty of the ecosystem—birds, vibrant frogs, and majestic elephants knee-deep in water.

After their adventure in Botswana, they traveled to the paradise of the Bazaruto Archipelago in southern Mozambique, known for its stunning white sand dunes. With a private villa featuring a pool and a secluded beach, they found the perfect retreat to reconnect with nature. Their luck continued as they witnessed the majestic whales migrating through the Mozambique Channel, a breathtaking sight during their Indian Ocean journey.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit Botswana and Mozambique is during the dry season, from May to October. In Botswana, this period offers the ideal conditions for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources, making sightings more frequent and spectacular. The cooler temperatures and clear skies also provide perfect conditions for safaris. For Mozambique, the dry season offers the best beach weather with warm, sunny days and calm seas, ideal for relaxing on the beaches of the Bazaruto Archipelago and enjoying water activities. This timeframe ensures a seamless experience in both destinations, combining incredible wildlife adventures with a relaxing beach escape.
